Here is the slide show that I promised. Christmas time around the Chickasaw Nation is a special time. Christmas lights at the the Headquarters go up around the first of December. In Ada, they are the prettiest lights that you can find. People drive through the campus of the Headquarters nightly looking at these lights that display the Nativity and other traditional Christmas scenes. My son and I took a few pictures of the lights for you to see. We are standing by my favorite, the poinsettias.
Another event that happens,or should I say events, are dinners for the Chickasaw senior citizens. I have taken a few pictures of the annual senior citizen luncheon where Lt. Governor Keel and his wife Carol are passing out small bags of Bedre’ chocolates. Bedre’ chocolates have become a Christmas tradition in the Chickiasaw Nation. If you have not tried Bedre’ chocolates, you just do not know what you are missing. My personal favorite is the popcorn with white chocolate and almonds. WOW. You can order directly from www.bedrechocolates.com. The popcorn is called White Cloud. Try some.
Last of all, I wish for you a blessed Christmas. God has been so good to me. One of our dear Chickasaw citizens sends those of at East Central University, where I work, a Christmas card each year. Jack Aday has worked at ECU longer than I have. Each year, he designs his own Christmas card and sends it to more than 200 staff and faculty at ECU. Jack gave me permission to send you a copy of his Christmas card designed for Christmas 2007. It is one of his favorites. Jack’s cards are a one-of-a-kind.
Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Hoping to hear from you in 2008.

November 17, 1998 marked the 100th anniversary of the Chickasaw Nation Capitol in Tishomingo, Oklahoma. The Legislature voted to hold our meeting in the capitol on this historic date. For me, it was a really special day for several different reasons. My relative Eli Perry Goforth was the first in my family to hold a position in the Legislature. Before statehood, Eli served as an interpreter for the Legislature. There was a true nostalgic feel as we held session that day. Several citizens were dressed in period clothing to celebrate the occasion. I only wish that I could show you all of the session. It lasted for about 42 minutes. This day was also the 16th birthday of my daughter Mahate. I hope that you enjoy this short YouTube clip. Have a great Christmas. I am still working on pictures for a Christmas slideshow.
